The Caribbean is full of pirates, but that doesn’t mean that it’s completely lawless. Five powerful factions fight for dominance in the West Indies; the French, English, and Spanish represent law and order, and pirates and loan sharks will bring you different problems if you cross them. Depending on your actions and your reputation, these powers will affect and interact with you in different ways. Commit too many crimes in a certain faction’s waters, betray a large pirate gang, or skip out on your loan payments and you’ll have more problems than you can aim a cannon at. Depending on who you attack, who you show mercy to, and where you commit your crimes will result in how much attention these factions pay you. Your reputation will also affect some merchant’s prices, lowering or raising the cost of valuable equipment and supplies.
